If it weren’t for the RSPCA, Pumpkin never would have entered my life. I am forever grateful for them and all the wonderful things they do for all creatures great and small.
I am inspired by the work of RSPCA Qld who care for over 42,000 animals every year, and are 96% community funded.

My cat Pumpkin
Tuesday 25th Jun A big part of the reason I am inspired to do this is my cat (and my best friend) Pumpkin.Pumpkin came into my life after a relationship breakdown saw me temporarily rehome my other cat whilst my living arrangements weren’t stable. I went through almost 12 months of therapy to work through the feelings of guilt and heartbreak about having to be without my cat Sammich, and how much it hurt knowing she was happy where she was.
My therapist encouraged me to ‘ground myself’ and get another pet. For months I said no I was not ready, until New Years Eve 2020. I woke up with a fire inside me and I knew I was not entering the new year without a cat companion.
I called my nearest pet barn and asked if they had any cats. RSPCA had just dropped off some kittens 15 minutes before I called. 20 minutes later I was signing Pumpkin’s adoption paperwork.
Not only was Pumpkin there for me through out covid, she was one of my biggest supports in my recovery from a workplace injury that almost ended my life. She was there by my side throughout my entire recovery, watching me learn to use my hand again, licking my tears away, meowing encouragement my way.
I can say with confidence that without my furry friend by my side throughout the past 4 years, I would not have had the strength to be sitting here typing this out today.
I am forever grateful for not just my cat Pumpkin, but every single person that works for and volunteers for the RSPCA. They do such incredible things for our animals and it would mean the world to me to be able to give something back to them as a small token of gratitude for what they’ve bought to my life.
